Beginning with the twilight of autonomy the last decade of annus mirabilis related to the Indian history culminates in the midnight of the acquittal of India. With the sanction of autonomy to the provinces the countdown of the British Empire breaks out. The Second World War appeared as an opportunity for the nationalist forces to liquidate their account with the Empire. The war-torn England induced the congress to be unusually aggressive- the congress provincial governments resigned, prompted the Muslim League to act and it floated the Pakistan Resolution; it impelled Gandhiji to set aside his beaten path of pacifist movements and oblized him to lively hit the Britishers to quit. In the series, as a last ditch attempt Subhash sought to militarize the whole Indian struggle which proves decisive. Britain though immerged triumphant as an ally yet her victory was loaned by the USA. The pride of the World Empire had gone before a fall. Morally defeated Britain politically won over India when in the lighted houseful Assembly the last British Governor General offered dominion Status to the Indian leaders in a sanguinary plate. Amongst the buoyed dignitaries seated in the house the two were amazingly conspicuous by their absence-the will of the people and Gandhiji. Eventually what led to fait accompli was the acceptance of religion based partition of the country which came to be compensated by the merger of the princely states into the union of India. To mention, the narrative has been. punctuated at places by pertinent analysis. To cap it all the obliged Indian leadership bade adieu to the erstwhile rulers weeping. honoring and singing elegy- perhaps unique in the history. The book is meant for serious readers who are in pursuit of truth
