The Ballad of 1965 is not a treatise on history; may be the Indo-Pak war of 1965 is in the background. It is a story of the people inhabitants of the cities, towns and villages along the border, some doing business, some performing duties as private and government employees and some others ploughed their fields. When wars take place, armed forces infantry, armour, field guns move forward and war planes hover in the sky these people have to shut their businesses, lock houses and often abandon their harvest-ready fields to move away from the borders. The Ballad of 1965 depicts the horrors, trials and travails the inhabitants of border areas face. No doubt, they dread wars and love peace. There are short stories as well, rather small stories, observations on simple day to day affairs of common people, their likes and dislikes, loves and fantasies, sentiments and emotions, fears and hopes of universal concerns.
